Lab Competencies

The Mechanical Measurements Laboratory undertakes physical and mechanical measurements for a wide range of components and devices for present and future high-energy physics projects. The lab assists the whole CERN community in two ways: by obtaining the necessary mechanical and thermo-physical materials properties used as inputs for mechanical analyses, and by performing the experimental validation of these analyses. To fulfil this mandate, the laboratory has a broad range of competences in the measurement field. In most of the cases, these are compatible with the harsh environments present at CERN, including: experimental stress analysis, vibration and seismic measurements, mechanical testing, and thermal analysis, and development of custom-made sensors.
